I am Ken McVeigh, the founder of Tall Tine Taxidermy. I have been doing taxidermy since I was 12 years old. I began as most taxidermists do through trial and error. I took pictures and studied the detail of any mounted animals I could see while visiting the Herter’s Showrooms on hunting and fishing trips. I was always trying to improve my next specimens. Growing up and living on the beautiful Lake Show Me provided me plenty of specimens which to practice on. Being an avid fisherman and hunter (primarily Deer, Turkey and Duck), these are the species I worked on the most.
After highschool I went away to college and entered the work force and got away from doing taxidermy work. I own and operate a small asphalt business in Lincoln Nebraska with a primary operations from May to November each year. Snow removal has been our primary source of income during the winter months. However, after more than 20 years of being in the construction business I am now back to doing what I enjoyed the most, taxidermy. Family and friends encouraged me to start back up and consider retiring from the asphalt business at some point in the future. So... I officially opened my shop to public work. I joined the Nebraska Taxidermy Association and began competing and learning from the Best of the Best. After an award-winning amateur competition, lots of seminars, training and help from State and World Champion mentors in the business, I took a FIRST PLACE ribbon for a Whitetail Mount (Commercial Division) at the Kansas State Taxidermy Competition March of 2009. Even so, I will always continue to improve and compete to the highest levels in the industry.
Tall Tine Taxidermy is now open full time from fall to spring and by appointment only during the summer. I am committed to returning your completed mount ready to hang on your wall in less than a year — most times it is six months or less. Rest assured, getting your own animal back is never an issue with us. In addition to full taxidermy mount services, I have all the latest equipment to do in-house hide tanning.
